How To

How can you implement a Quality Management Plan?

QMP, which was introduced by ISO 9001:2008, is a systematic approach to improving products, services, and processes through continuous improvement. It focuses on the ability to measure, analyze and control processes and customer satisfaction.

QMP is a common method to ensure business performance. QMP improves production, service delivery, as well as customer relations. QMPs should encompass all three components - Products and Services, as well as Processes. The QMP that only addresses one aspect of the process is called a Process QMP. The QMP that focuses on a Product/Service is called a "Product." QMP. If the QMP focuses on Customer Relationships, it's called a "Product" QMP.

Two main elements are required for the implementation of a QMP. They are Scope and Strategy. They are defined as follows:

Scope: This defines what the QMP will cover and its duration. This scope can be used to determine activities for the first six-months of implementation of a QMP in your company.

Strategy: These are the steps taken in order to reach the goals listed in the scope.

A typical QMP comprises five phases: Planning and Design, Development, Construction, Implementation, Maintenance. The following describes each phase.

Planning: In this stage, the objectives of the QMP are identified and prioritized. In order to fully understand and meet the needs of all stakeholders involved in this project, they are consulted. Once the objectives and priorities have been identified, it is time to plan the strategy to achieve them.

Design: During this stage, the design team develops the vision, mission, strategies, and tactics required for the successful implementation of the QMP. These strategies can be implemented through the creation of detailed plans.

Development: Here the development team works toward building the necessary resources and capabilities to support the successful implementation.

Implementation: This is the actual implementation and use of the QMP's planned strategies.

Maintenance: This is an ongoing procedure to keep the QMP in good condition over time.

Additionally, the QMP should include additional items:

Stakeholder Involvement: Stakeholders are important for the success of the QMP. They need to be actively involved in the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance stages of the QMP.

Initiation of a Project: A clear understanding and application of the problem statement is crucial for initiating a project. The initiator must know the reason they are doing something and the expected outcome.

Time Frame: This is a critical aspect of the QMP. If you plan to implement the QMP for a short period, you can start with a simple version. However, if you have a long-term commitment, you may require more elaborate versions.

Cost Estimation: Cost estimation is another vital component of the QMP. It is impossible to plan without knowing what you will spend. Before you start the QMP, it is important to estimate your costs.

QMPs should not be considered a static document. It is constantly changing as the company changes. It is important to review it periodically to ensure it meets all current requirements.
